Yen Lin
finding my path in the world of history and design
In 2023, I embarked on a new journey as a design curator for the National Museum of Singapore. It was a combination of many firsts for me — first time working as an institutional curator, first time creating the domain of design collecting, and being one of the firsts to parcel out what a future design museum may look like. I was a scout on a mission to discover new terrains. Though there was a destination in mind, there wasn’t much of a roadmap at hand or a fixed plan to follow. This freedom to be at the drawing boards was both exhilarating and sobering. This site is a record of what I have discovered in my fledging journey as a curator working at the crossroads of social history and design history, and my personal reflections of practices around contemporary practices of curation, collecting and display.
